Moving forward – Try it
If I were to make one single new years resolution it would be to become better at finishing what I start.
Taking action and starting things might be what propels you forward in life, but finishing them is what will actually allow you to move. It doesn’t matter if you start the boat engine that generates energy unless that energy is directed through a spinning propeller that is able to push back water, which allows the boat to move forward. The propeller creates the useful output. The same goes for finishing things. Completion creates the useful output.
Moving, in my opinion, is the natural order of things. It is my belief that a harmonious life comes from being a part of the natural order of things and that a harmonious life is desirable to strive for in every way and to whatever extent one can.
As far as I can tell there are, broadly speaking, three basic components to moving forward.
- Idea
- Implementation
- Completion
Idea
You start off with an idea. You trigger the process in your mind. You either know immediately how to realize it, like a push-up, or you start elaborating on a plan containing the different necessary components.
Implementation
You start trying.
Completion
You succeed.
You’ll never know the result of #1 without #3. So without #3 you’ve never even tried your idea.
You haven’t moved.
MOVE!
